Welcome to New Zealand Search and Rescue

The New Zealand Search and Rescue (NZSAR) Council has a mandate from the NZ government to provide strategic leadership to the New Zealand Search and Rescue Sector.

We help improve the overall co-ordination, cohesion, capability and leadership of search and rescue by working alongside the key organisations and individuals providing search and rescue services throughout New Zealand.

What's New?

The NZSAR Council has released its strategic plan for 2014-16.  The Council took the opportunity to revise and update its goals for the SAR sector. The four goals are:

  1. A robust and integrated SAR system
  2. Efficient and sustainable SAR organisations
  3. Capable SAR people
  4. Reduced demand for SAR services

The plan is available here.

The NZSAR Council has recently received an independent report on Integrated SAR Management Training Pathways. It is available here.

The New Zealand Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS) 2nd Edition is now available. This edition replaces The New Zealand Coordinated Management System (CIMS) 1st Edition, published in 1998 by the New Zealand Fire Service Commission (also known as the ‘Blue Book’).
